Operation Safe Driver Week: Law Enforcement Cracking Down on Speeding Starting July 9

Sunday, July 9, kicks off Operation Safe Driver Week, organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). Throughout the week, law enforcement will be on the lookout for unsafe behaviors of drivers in commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles.

This year, patrols will be especially focusing on speeding, which continues to be a problem in today’s fast-paced society. Speeding amplifies the consequences of collisions, and when combined with other unsafe behaviors like distracted driving, can lead to tragic results. The seconds and minutes saved by speeding are not worth the risk to yourself and other drivers.

Don’t forget these important reminders, not just next week, but every day you’re on the road:

  • Watch your speed - Especially in construction zones or during adverse weather.
  • Put away distractions - Answering that text message can wait until you're parked.
  • Wear your seatbelt anytime the vehicle is moving - Buckle up, lower your risk.
  • Avoid substances that can impair your driving - Stay alert!
  • Pay attention to all traffic laws - This includes proper lane changes and following distance
